What if "common sense" as you knew it was just "nonsense?"

There are so many things in Japan that people do just because everyone else does the same thing...

This is the country that really emphasizes "manner," but smoking in the restaurant is ok.

It's a bad manner to talk on the phone on the train or the bus, but having a loud conversation in person is ok.

Oh well...
